Below are descriptions of different forms created by Janis Wilson Hughes.

Cool Bottles

Bottle Forms

Bottles are shapes with narrow necks.

There are a lot of different bottle shapes possible.
They are fun and somewhat challenging to throw.
It is essential to get all the water out of the bottom of the pot before the opening is narrowed too far.

Mugs

Mugs

Mugs are cups with handles.

Mugs are great for everyday use.
Although they are relatively small forms, they take a while to make because of the handles.
I take great care in making my handles so that they compliment the form and are pleasing to hold.

Vases

Cups

Cups are mugs without handles.

These vessels are great for everyday use. They're great for juice, milk, and any kind of cold or warm drink. For hot coffee stick with mugs so you don't burn your hands.

Bowls

Tea Pots

Tea pots come in all sizes and shapes .

For making tea, boil water on the stove, then add it to the tea pot with a bag of your favorite tea.
I sometimes enjoy making miniature teapots .

Plates

Gestural Pots

These are mostly decorative pots that could be used as bud vases.

These begin as uniform, wheel thrown pots. Then they are highly altered and given a bit of a personality. These are very fun to make. I let my creativity run wild when working with these pots.

Trays

Trays and Soap Dishes

These simple objects make everyday life easier.

Trays are amazingly useful - I use them for all kinds of small food items including dipping trays with olive oil for yummy breads.
And no one likes soggy soap - my soap dishes keep your soap solid and channel away the water with style.

Jewel Pots

Pods

These are small, organic forms.

They are thrown as a bowl, and then they are highly altered. I usually use a surform to create the texture. Sometimes I highlight the texture with engobe.
These are purely non-functional pots, but I really adore them. They are great at adding interest to a shelf or coffee table.

Fork Art

Sculptures

This stacked form is self supporting without any hidden supports.

I sometimes enjoy playing with balance by joining small, hollow forms together.
The four "balls" that make up this sculpture were actually thrown on the wheel as hollow forms. Once leather hard, I altered them, added texture, then joined them together.
This is an unglazed stoneware clay.
